This week I have the opportunity to travel to my favourite Queensland region, the tropics. It's a truly exotic place that provides a heady mix of flavours and cultures. Getting off the eaten track is easy here, it happens the moment you walk off the plane.
There are things grown in the tropics that can't be found anywhere else in the state and someone who knows this more than anyone else is my mate Peter Salleras. He's an exotic fruit farmer from the Mission Beach area and right now his trees are brimming with fruit including my personal favourite, Rollinia deliciosa. The Amazonian custard apple is like eating a lemon meringue. It's truly divine.
I always come back from a trip to the tropics brimming with ideas. Watch Off the Eaten Track 7pm this Saturday and I'm sure you will be too!
AND don't forget to enter the competition to win a table for six at my 'best of the best' produce dinner at Bretts Wharf. The five course showcase will utilise food from producers I've visited on the show.
Just by entering the competition I'll give you a gift! What is it? You'll have to enter to find out... Click on the Competitions tab above.
